Norfolk Update – 48 New Parishes – 12th July 2011

We have just added 5,256 new marriage records to the Joiner Marriage Index for Norfolk which includes 48 new parishes and some updated data for 15 of our other parishes. The new parishes just added are:

This now completes the Joiner Marriage Index coverage for the years 1813 to 1837 in Norfolk apart from the parishes within Norwich itself which will follow in the next few weeks. The Joiner Marriage Index now truly is the best and only searchable index for marriage records in Norfolk, no other online resource comes close to offering the data that we do.

This addition takes the total for Norfolk to 117,886 marriage records in 578 parishes between 1538 and 1837 and the total for the Joiner Marriage Index to 2,201,203 marriage records in 3,165 parishes in 26 counties.

In the coming weeks more marriage records will be added from the parish registers for Norfolk and this will define the Joiner Marriage Index as the only searchable index for marriage records before 1837 in Norfolk. Please check back for our updates.

This addition takes the total for Norfolk to 112,680 marriage records in 530 parishes between 1538 and 1837 and the total for the Joiner Marriage Index to 2,195,997 marriage records in 3,117 parishes in 26 counties.

West Riding of Yorkshire Update – Leeds – 14th June 2011

This takes the total for the West Riding of Yorkshire to 227,517 marriage records in 125 parishes between 1538 and 1837, and for the Joiner Marriage Index as a whole to 2,188,589 marriage records in 3,042 parishes.

Surnames of Brides and Grooms from our Marriage Records

For those of you who may have been using the Joiner Marriage Index for a while, you may remember that within each county we used to list the male and female surnames for our marriage records. During the major redesign of the site which began last year these pages were removed as part of the simplification to the navigation around the site. Having almost completed the redesign now it seemed an appropriate time to reintroduce the pages as an extra resource to help track down marriage records where the surname may be a little ambiguous for one of the multitude of possible reasons.

To find the lists is straightforward as they are linked from each county page in the coverage section of the Joiner Marriage Index. For example, the pages appropriate to Buckinghamshire are: Brides and Grooms.

At the time of the writing of this post, 3rd June 2011, the work is about half done to implement these pages into the counties of the Joiner Marriage Index. The counties should be complete within the next couple of days giving complete lists of the surnames contained in our marriage records.

West Riding of Yorkshire Update – 22nd May 2011

The new parishes are:

Elland with 5470 marriage records between 1559 and 1714
Guiseley with 1352 marriage records between 1586 and 1721
Saddleworth with 1166 marriage records between 1613 and 1751

This takes the total for the Joiner Marriage Index to 2,166,248 marriage records in 3,042 parishes.
