The Joiner Marriage Index

Search for marriage records in England before 1837

Welcome to the Joiner Marriage Index

Before 1837, when marriage certificates were formally introduced following the first Civil Registration Act, marriage records in England and Wales were kept in parish registers. This is Paul Joiner's definitive genealogical resource for those marraige records, the Joiner Marriage Index.

Online there are now 3,343,389 hand verified marriage records from 50,340 parishes in 41 counties in England and Wales, making the Joiner Marriage Index the most accurate and complete online search facility for marriage records from parish registers. It is the fruit of more than 40 years of painstaking research and data collation by Paul Joiner. The number of marriage records is always increasing as data is transferred from our offline records. The initial process is free allowing a lot of information to be gleaned before the full details are accessed via a payment through PayPal. Please note that this is an index of the marriage records from parish registers. NO marriage certificates are included with the search results. An email backup follows with a password to view the marriage records search in the results section of the Joiner Marriage Index.

The cost of a search begins at £2.29 for a single marriage record and increases by £0.10 per marriage record up to a maximum of £52.19 for 500 marriage records. For searches of more than 500 marriage records please contact us for a more personal touch.

The Joiner Marriage Index is also the home to the Genuki pages of County Durham and Hertfordshire.

Please read my disclaimer regarding the detail of the marriage records in the Joiner Marriage Index.
