Will of John JOYNER, the elder, of Poynter's End, Ippollitts, HRT, Yeoman 1710(1)

In the Name of God Amen I John JOYNER the elder of Poynter's End in the Parish of
Ippollitts in the County of Herts yeoman being old and infirm of body but of
perfect mind and memory praised be God for the ... therefore doe make
this my last will and testament as followeth FIRST I commend my soule
into the hands of Allmighty God my maker hopeing by the sole merritts of 
Jesus Christ my only saviour and redeemer to have all my sinnes remitted
and to bee made worthy of eternal life for my body I committ to the earth
whereof it was made to bee buryed in such seemly sort as my executor hereafter
named shall think fitt as for that worldly estate which it hath pleased God to
Blesse me withall I dispose thereof as followeth ITEM I give and devise unto
John JOYNER my sonne and to his heires and assigns for ever All that my
messuage or tenement with the appurtenances situate and being at Poynters
End in the parish of Ippolletts now in my owne occupation and the said John my
sonne and alsoe all those my six closes of arrable land pasture sweard and
wood ground with the appliances at Poynters End aforesaid in the parish of
Ippolletts aforesaid contayning together by estimation twenty acres more or less
lying neere or adjoining to my messuage or tenement aforesaid, which said
messuage or tenement and premises aforesaid are holden of the Mannor of
Maydencroft in the County of Herts aforesaid by Copy of Court Roll and
did lately descend and come unto me from and after the decease of my 
late father of which premises I have lately made a surrender to the use of my will
Provided allwayswe and upon condition that hee the said John
JOYNER my sonne or his assigns or heires doe and shall well and truly pay or cause
to bee paid unto Alice my loving wife the sume of three pounds of Lawfull
money of great Brittaine a year yearely and evry year for and during
the terme of her naturall life at two usual feasts or Dayes of payment
in the yeare That is to say the feast day of St. Michaell the Archangell
and the feast day of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary by even
and equal portions the first payment thereof to begin at that feast of the feasts aforesaid
which shall first happen next after my decease and also doe and shall bind
promise and allowe to and for the said Alice my wife fire woods sufficient and
convenient at all times during the terme of her natural life and also doe
and shall permit and suffer the said Alice my wife peacably and quietly
at all times during her natural life to hold and enjoy my hall and
chamber below stairs and the two lofts and chambers and the farme with
free liberty of ingress egresse and exgresse of into or out of the farmes rooms
and any of them being part of my messuage or tenement aforesaid
and also doe and shall well and truley pay or cause to bee paid unto
Alice my daughter the full sum of forty pounds of lawfull money of great
Brittaine within two years next after my decease and alsoe doe and
shall well and truley pay or cause to bee paid unto Sara my daughter
the full sume of forty pounds of lawfull money of great Brittaine within
three years next after my decease ITEM my will and mind further is that
if the said John JOYNER or his heires shall neglect or refuse to pay to the
said Alice my wife Alice and Sara my daughters the ... and ...
legacy or legacies above in this will devised unto them Then I give
and devise All and every my said messuages tenement closes land and
tenement above in this my will mentioned unto the said Alice my
wife Alice and Sara my daughters to have and to hold unto them and
their heires equally to be divided betweene them until they and evry of them
shall be fully fulfilled and payse their ... and ... legacy or
legacies above in this my will devised unto them. ITEM I give and devise
more unto the said Alice my wife All and evry my household goods as
Brasse pewter bedds beding and all other utensills or household goods nowe
remayning in and about the house where I doe now dwell ITEM I give
and devise unto William JOYNER my sonne and to his heires and assigns
for ever All those my seven acres and one rood more or lesse of freehold
and coppy lands with the appurtenances lying in the parish of Ippolletts
aforesaid and Hitchin in the county of Herts aforesaid which was lately
purchased of one Robert Bromall gent provided allways and upon
condition notwithstanding that the said William JOYNER my sonne or
his heires do and shall well and truely pay or cause to bee paid
unto the said Alice my wife the full summe of two pounds of lawfull
money of great Brittaine a yeare yearely for and during the terme
of her naturall life at two usual feasts or Dayes of payment in the
years (that is to say the feast day of St. Michael the Archangel and
the feast day of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary)
by even and equal portions the first payment thereof to begine at that
feast of the feasts aforesaid which shall first happen next after my
decease ITEM I give and devise unto Dorothy my daughter the summe
of ten shillings to be paied unto her by my executor hereafter named
within three months next after my decease ITEM all the rest and residue
of my personal estate goods chattells unbequeathed my debts legacies
and funeral expenses first paied and discharged I give and devise
unto the said William JOYNER my sonne whome I doe make constitute
ordeigne and appoint sole executor of this my last will and testament revoking
all former wills heretofore by me made. In witness whereof I the said John 
JOYNER the elder have hereunder put my hand and seale to this my will
conteyned in three sheets of paper this one and thirtieth day of July
Anno Die 1708 and in the Seaventh yeare of the Reigne of our Sovreigne
Lady Anne by the Grace of God Queen of great Brittaine France and Ireland.
